Having these supplies available allows students to work on projects without having to wait for materials or provide their own.\r\n\r\nThe cleaning and personal-care supplies have also been useful in maintaining a clean and organized classroom. Students have access to items such as disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and other basic supplies throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nStudent Council is currently using these materials to prepare for upcoming school events and activities. Students will continue creating decorations, promotional materials, and other projects that support school spirit and student involvement. The new mice and mouse pads are already making a difference for my students. CAD requires students to constantly rotate models, zoom in and out, select small features, create precise sketches, and work with parts in three dimensions. Those tasks can be surprisingly difficult with a Chromebook trackpad. Having a mouse at each workstation gives students much better control and allows them to focus on learning how to design instead of struggling with the computer.\r\n\r\nThe mouse pads have been just as important. Our new classroom tables look great, but optical mice do not track reliably on the surface. Now students have a consistent workspace where the mouse works the way it should. It seems like a small change, but students immediately notice how much easier it is to navigate their CAD models. This has been especially helpful for students who are newer to CAD because they can spend their time learning the software and developing their designs rather than becoming frustrated with the controls.\r\n\r\nAs students become more comfortable with CAD, the next step is for them to create increasingly complex parts and assemblies for their robotics projects. I want them to become confident enough to take an idea from a sketch, create it digitally, make changes based on testing, and eventually turn that design into a real part. My students were excited to see the new 2-inch omni wheels, rotation sensors, and AI Vision Sensors arrive because these components allow us to move beyond basic autonomous programming and begin exploring how robots can actually determine where they are on the field. Students are using the omni wheels and rotation sensors to experiment with odometry, using data from the movement of the wheels to calculate the robot's position and track how far and in what direction it has traveled.\r\n\r\nOne of the most valuable parts of this project is that students will get to discover that real engineering is rarely perfect. Wheels can slip, robots can be bumped, and small measurement errors can accumulate. The AI Vision Sensors give students another tool for determining where the robot is and provide an opportunity to compare sensor-based positioning methods. Instead of simply programming a robot to drive forward for a certain amount of time, students can begin creating autonomous programs that make decisions based on information about the robot and its surroundings.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building and programming these systems and then test how accurately our robots can navigate to specific locations on the field. Students will collect data, identify sources of error, modify their code, and test again. Your support has given them the opportunity to tackle the same kinds of problems that engineers face when developing autonomous machines. The Ghost Map made a significant impact on most of the students and they appreciated the unique lens through which they were able to look at a moment in History that is not talked of often.
