Making music starts with your setup. In order to demonstrate knowledge, students ( MU:Pr4.1.EII) need to be able to play their instrument without any unnecessary pain or discomfort. Because the bass is too big to play while sitting in a chair, bass players sit on stools. Our orchestra program has two stools that are broken beyond repair. Even if they were functional, the height is not adjustable, which causes the students to experience back pain. Improving the playing position of the bass section will enhance the sound of the entire orchestra! As young musicians, the students are taught to tune and listen to every section of the orchestra, but when the basses are unable to play correctly due to their setup, it affects everyone's music-making. Every student deserves to learn in a healthy and safe environment. Although these stools seem basic, they are fundamental in allowing every bass player to adjust their setup to their individual needs.
