The spiral notebooks have become each student's personal writing space: used for daily quick writes, brainstorming, drafting, and reflection. Having a notebook they can keep and return to has helped students take more ownership of their thinking and writing.\r\n\r\nOne especially meaningful moment came during a multi-genre project on a famous person. Students used the construction paper, colored pencils, markers, and metallic Sharpies to create visual pieces that accompanied their analytical writing such as timelines, blackout poetry, illustrated quotes, and symbolic artwork. The supplies allowed students to express complex ideas in ways that went beyond a traditional essay, and it was powerful to watch students who usually struggle with writing feel confident and proud of their work.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate. Students were genuinely surprised and excited to see a classroom stocked with high-quality notebooks, colorful paper, and art supplies just for them. \r\n\r\nFor many students, having choice in colors, pens, and tools made writing feel less intimidating and more inviting. The materials sent a clear message: their ideas are worth investing in. That sense of value translated directly into higher engagement and willingness to take creative risks.\r\n\r\nStudents are building on these resources as we move into creative projects that merge writing with analysis, including blackout poetry, narrative writing, and multi-genre essays. Students will draft in their notebooks, revise with peer feedback, and then transform their writing into polished creative pieces using the art supplies.\r\n\r\nThese materials will continue to support not just academic growth, but confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768010853800,"projectUrl":"project/give-students-access-to-materials-to-be/9987230/","projectTitle":"Give Students Access to materials to be confident, and prepared!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Otter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8119855_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699229870862","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8119855"},{"teacherId":10000445,"projectId":9258458,"letterContent":"My students and I have been putting our new resources to great use! The students are so proud of their work and hope that their books can serve as guides to help other students succeed in the future.\r\n\r\nThe students were extremely excited to dive in! Many of them immediately began brainstorming ideas and discussing how they could make their books helpful and creative. It was amazing to see their motivation grow once they had the materials in their hands.\r\n\r\nStudents will be finalizing their books and sharing them with classmates and other students. They used excellent problem solving skills to make the most of the products and to use them appropriately.\r\nNow, it's strange to see my students at basic desks.
