The students have been very grateful for having something to eat in class with more and more students taking advantage of the snack box. The life-size human skeleton with spinal nerves, muscle attachment points, and joint ligaments has become an exciting hands-on learning tool in our classroom. Students can now move beyond simply looking at pictures in a textbook and actually identify bones, joints, muscles, and anatomical structures on a three-dimensional model. We also have a smaller skeleton model that students can use in small groups, making our lessons much more interactive and student-centered.\r\n\r\n\r\nMy students were especially excited when they first saw the new skeletons. Their reactions ranged from \"Wow!\" to immediately wanting to examine and identify different bones and structures. These resources are helping students make connections between what they read, what they see, and what they can physically explore. The Post-it Notes, magnets, whiteboard supplies, storage bags, and classroom organization materials are also helping us create a more interactive learning environment. Even the snacks have an important role—they help me build positive relationships with students, encourage participation, and celebrate their hard work. One of my favorite moments is watching students gather around the skeleton and challenge one another to identify anatomical structures using the correct terminology.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources as we move through our Anatomy curriculum and study how the body's systems work together to maintain homeostasis. Students will use the skeleton during lessons involving body regions, anatomical terminology, the skeletal system, muscles, joints, and other body systems. I asked for colored paper and colored notecards. I wanted to give students a choice when it came to what they wrote on. It has worked. I have assigned bellringers for several years. I have never had the positive response I am getting this year as they pick the paper they want to write on. It is such a small thing, but they really seem to enjoy being able to start the class making a decision based purely on their own likes and dislikes. I am getting completed bellringers at a higher percentage than ever before, which leads to higher grades. \r\nThe cards allow for student choice, but it also allows me to have additional organizational ability. In addition to using some of the cards for bellringers and quickwrites, I am also able to color code the passes that I write, which makes things easier for the students as they negotiate their way across our large campus. \r\nI again want to thank you for your thought, generosity, and support. In the photo, there is a red box, and that box may be the most popular box in the history of my educational career. I restock snacks at the start of each class and leave the box out. Students come in, go to the box without having to ask permission, and take one or two items to munch on during class. \r\nI have done this for two years, and this year, the students are much more aware of not taking an excessive amount from the box, and they have been much more aware of their own trash. I have even had a few students tell me that they come to class because they know they will be able to find something to eat. While I knew that this would help students focus since they didn't have to worry about being hungry in class, I didn't consider that my attendance rate would increase. \r\nA appreciate the fact that you chose to contribute to this project from all of the worthy ones available. We have a policy at our school that students must have clear backpacks, and some of our students simply cannot afford one. So, the project you funded fixed a problem for a few more that can lead to academic issues for the students. The backpacks that you provided keep them in behavioral compliance, allow them to keep their materials and resources (including computers and chargers) dry, and allow for organization. And the students are very grateful to have a new, clear, school appropriate backpack. \r\nThe rain ponchos are honestly still sitting in my closet. We had some torrential rain at dismissal times in the first three days of school, but I hadn't received the ponchos at that point. Since then, the weather has been pretty cooperative. I will be able to surprise several students with protection in the very near future when they are caught off guard by rain and storms.
