Every single one of my students is new to the country, the English language and in 11th or 12th Grade. Many of them arrived in August and others have been in the country up to 3 years. My students are refugees, asylum seekers, asylees and are all resilient, wonderful, hard-working children eager to learn and determined to graduate High School. Most have experienced trauma and some have been raised in refugee camps. New English learners in High School bring new and unique challenges in order for them to be successful and graduate within 2 years. In order to meet their needs and facilitate the acquisition of the English Language while they are becoming accustomed to the U.S I have some unique needs that we would all be so grateful to have met.
