The projects vary widely when it comes to types of requests and types of learning the can come from your support. This project has surprised me to some extent. I asked for colored paper and colored notecards. I wanted to give students a choice when it came to what they wrote on. It has worked. I have assigned bellringers for several years. I have never had the positive response I am getting this year as they pick the paper they want to write on. It is such a small thing, but they really seem to enjoy being able to start the class making a decision based purely on their own likes and dislikes. I am getting completed bellringers at a higher percentage than ever before, which leads to higher grades. \r\nThe cards allow for student choice, but it also allows me to have additional organizational ability. In addition to using some of the cards for bellringers and quickwrites, I am also able to color code the passes that I write, which makes things easier for the students as they negotiate their way across our large campus. \r\nI again want to thank you for your thought, generosity, and support. I have made the request multiple times because the need is constant. Unfortunately, that need continues. So far this year, due to your generosity, we have been able to provide my juniors with snacks for about two weeks. In the photo, there is a red box, and that box may be the most popular box in the history of my educational career. I restock snacks at the start of each class and leave the box out. Students come in, go to the box without having to ask permission, and take one or two items to munch on during class. \r\nI have done this for two years, and this year, the students are much more aware of not taking an excessive amount from the box, and they have been much more aware of their own trash. I have even had a few students tell me that they come to class because they know they will be able to find something to eat. While I knew that this would help students focus since they didn't have to worry about being hungry in class, I didn't consider that my attendance rate would increase. \r\nA appreciate the fact that you chose to contribute to this project from all of the worthy ones available. We have a policy at our school that students must have clear backpacks, and some of our students simply cannot afford one. The school distributed the limited extra ones we had very quickly, but it wasn't close to enough. So, the project you funded fixed a problem for a few more that can lead to academic issues for the students. The backpacks that you provided keep them in behavioral compliance, allow them to keep their materials and resources (including computers and chargers) dry, and allow for organization. And the students are very grateful to have a new, clear, school appropriate backpack. \r\nThe rain ponchos are honestly still sitting in my closet. We had some torrential rain at dismissal times in the first three days of school, but I hadn't received the ponchos at that point. Since then, the weather has been pretty cooperative. I will be able to surprise several students with protection in the very near future when they are caught off guard by rain and storms. Several students were genuinely amazed that the CPR mannequins were brand new and still wrapped in their original packaging. Their excitement was a wonderful reminder that having quality equipment matters—not only because it improves the training, but because it shows our students that others believe they are worth investing in.\r\n\r\nThese materials will allow cadets to practice CPR and First Aid instead of simply reading about them or watching a demonstration. They will learn how to recognize an emergency, take action, work together, and potentially save a life.
