I teach first through fourth grade, and have been able to use them in every classroom. The students were very excited to see the new games and have shown social and emotional growth as they work together and teach the games to new students. I'm also pleased that one of our SPED teachers has also been borrowing a few of the games to use with her students. \r\n\r\n The Weird School game has become a favorite with my first graders, I love seeing the connections they make. My second graders are enjoying the math games, especially those having to do with multiplication and division. My third graders seem to enjoy the logic games and my fourth graders are totally into the math and logic games. Dog Crimes is one of their absolute favorites.","fullyFundedDate":1768191985681,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-students-with-academic-games/10002216/","projectTitle":"Engaging Students with Academic Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kruse","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7540097"},{"teacherId":8125358,"projectId":10030209,"letterContent":"This project has taken off! Middle school-aged scientists have been observing cells, small structures, and interactions of microbiology! They are making connections about how the microscopic environments on a glass slide have similarities and differences to our own macroscopic environments, witnessing first hand how microscopic life interacts with others and responds to stimuli, just like we do! Students have been excited to show others their observations and discoveries; one student in particular has been teaching others the best way to find cheek cells in the microscopic field of view, and how increasing magnification requires setting the specimen in a precise location.\r\n The weather station has brought up many conversations and has made its way into the daily school announcements in the morning! The students read the weather station data, then produce a daily weather update, including temperature, % humidity, precipitation, and pressure. It has become a fun challenge for students and teacher to guess the temperature outside, or how many of inches of precipitation occurred overnight, that is announced on the intercom. It has helped students understand that when the pressure is lower, the weather is more cloudy or rainy, and higher pressure is nicer weather. They can compare their observations out the window to the data on the weather station! \r\n Overall these tools have been monumental with engagement and understanding the smaller and larger worlds around us. The students have embraced these items as tools for observation and data, allowing for more evidence-driven conversations in our classroom and around the rest of the school. I am truly grateful for the compassion and generosity of all those who donated to this project. It really has caused a positive impact on these scientific thinkers and investigators! The addition of headphones has made a huge difference in how students access instruction. Many of our learners benefit from listening to lessons, audiobooks, and individualized programs at their own pace without distractions. This technology allows them to focus more deeply, build independence, and feel confident as they work through material tailored to their needs—something that can be difficult to achieve in a busy classroom setting.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technology, the Harry Potter–inspired hanging candles have created a warm, magical atmosphere that students genuinely look forward to each day. What might seem like simple décor has helped foster a sense of excitement and comfort, making the classroom feel like a safe, special place to learn. The new table storage with cubbies has also been a game changer, giving students a clear and organized space for their work. This structure helps them stay on task, take pride in their materials, and build responsibility for their learning.\r\n\r\nSome of my students who previously struggled with attention and organization have especially thrived with these additions. The headphones allow them to tune out distractions and fully engage, while the cubbies give them ownership over their work in a way that feels manageable and motivating.
