English class is the most wide ranged class of the day, as students discuss their lives, learn how to communicate both verbally and through writing, and students benefit greatly through reading literature that has relevance to them. I want to create a warm and safe environment where students can expand their understanding of literature, as well as see how conventions are applied in real life. My students range in socioeconomic status, but a large percentage of my students have rough home lives. By providing young adult novels that give students perspective, and fantasy novels that provide an escape, students can enrich their learning, and hopefully be inspired to further their education.
