A realization really hit me hard when I said out loud that the last "normal" year my students had was third grade. During their fourth grade year a pandemic struck and they never returned physically to their school. Fifth grade was a blended year of hybrid learning, with both virtual and in person learning. My sixth graders are taking all of their middle school changes in stride. Now in sixth grade, many of my students are at a new school with new friends, changing classes throughout their day, using lockers and being part of school teams. All of these changes come with struggle and I am hoping that with learning materials in class and potentially at home if needed it will smooth their transition with these changes in middle school. While some of my students have access to computers at home, some do not, and I would like to have a few computers to help those students reach their educational success. Additionally, I requested five headphones with mic's. Many of my students are working hard on improving their motor skills, because of this they need help with typing. Having the ability to speak into the computer and see their story come alive without extra struggle would create motivation! I am requesting one tablet due to motor skill struggle as well, I have a few students who struggle with typing but do well with touch applications. Having the variety of learning tools will help my students succeed and create a positive environment for their learning!
