Because of you, my students now have access to a laptop and a speaker that have already made a meaningful difference in our school community.\r\nSince personal devices have been banned in our school building, the laptop has become an essential tool in my high school government classroom. It allows students to engage in real-time research, analyze current events, and participate more actively in discussions about civic issues and the world around them. Having immediate access to reliable information has helped restore an important aspect of learning that my students were missing.\r\nThe speaker has also had a tremendous impact beyond the classroom. It has been widely used during meetings and events for the Black Students' Union, the Caribbean and African Students' Association, and the UNITY Club—student groups that I am proud to advise. The speaker has helped amplify student voices, support presentations, foster community dialogue, and create welcoming, engaging spaces where students feel seen and heard.\r\nYour donation did far more than provide equipment—it supported student voice, access to learning, and a sense of belonging. While many of us use technology for daily tasks, in our classroom, the Mac mini units and high-resolution monitors serve as a professional-grade \"digital darkroom.\"\r\n\r\nThis technology allows my students to master industry-standard software like Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. With Lightroom, they learn the delicate art of color grading and exposure, while Photoshop allows them to seamlessly transform their digital photography into complex works of art. Because these machines are so powerful, we can produce more work, more efficiently. My students are no longer limited by slow processing speeds; they can now take their photography further than ever before, exploring techniques that were simply impossible on our old equipment.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is seeing the \"pro\" results they can achieve. When they see their work on these crisp, vibrant monitors, they start to see themselves as professional photographers. There is a new sense of pride in the \"finish\" of their work. In fact, at a recent art show, a former student, who didn't have access to this tech, remarked on how \"amazing\" the photography looks this year. She could immediately see the jump in quality that these computers and software have facilitated.\r\n\r\nThis technology has been a game-changer for my students who are preparing for life after graduation. It has opened doors for their futures by allowing them to create college portfolios that are beyond anything we have been able to produce in the past. \r\n\r\nYou haven't just given us hardware and software; you've given these artists a competitive edge and a brighter future.","fullyFundedDate":1760728602384,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-student-photography/9829663/","projectTitle":"Empowering Student Photography","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sobala","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1143180_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760463952301","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1143180"},{"teacherId":144458,"projectId":9502001,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and support in helping supply our new Personal Finance Math class. While many people use technology at home for convenience or entertainment, in our classroom these calculators are used as thinking tools. Students use them to visualize graphs, test ideas, check patterns, and connect algebraic equations to real images they can see and discuss.\r\n\r\nInstead of guessing or memorizing steps, students can experiment, make predictions, and immediately see the results. This has led to deeper conversations, stronger problem-solving skills, and increased confidence—especially for students who previously struggled to \"see\" what the math was doing.\r\n\r\nStudents are most excited by the independence this technology gives them. Having their own calculator, lapboard whiteboard, and markers means they can try ideas without fear of making mistakes. The whiteboards allow students to quickly sketch, revise, and share their thinking, while the calculators let them explore multiple approaches to the same problem.\r\n\r\nThe poster boards and markers have also made learning more interactive. Students love working collaboratively to create visual explanations of their thinking, turning abstract math concepts into something concrete and shareable.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has helped create a classroom culture where everyone can participate, take risks, and feel successful. They were told that during the avian flu epidemic earlier this year, one customer bought three cartons of a dozen eggs and five cartons of 18 eggs for $76.00. A second customer bought four cartons of a dozen eggs and two cartons of 18 eggs for $52.80. The students had to determine the price for a carton of one dozen eggs and for a carton of 18 eggs.\r\n\r\nIt was fascinating to see some of the groups try to solve the problem by substitution, others by elimination.
