My name is Jessica VanScoy and I've been teaching in the New York City Public School system for 10 years. I was recently accepted into the Educational Policy program at Teacher's College at Columbia University. I hope to use what I have learned while teaching to create better policy on the federal or state level. As a teacher, I am dedicated to my "kids" both in school and out. Please consider helping me fund my projects to expand my students' literacy skills. Too often I receive students who cannot read at all, or read at a very basic level. When I first began teaching, I was at a loss for how to teach them these vital skills. This is why so many new teachers leave the system. Now that I've "been around the block," so to speak, I feel I know what it takes to create literate, future scholars for our country. Please assist me in being a strong teacher for my students!
