Our light that has been covered by the eyepatch is dark-ready and can see a great deal better than our other eye. We've all noticed the difference when our eyes become adjusted to the dark, but have the side-by-side comparison tends to make the students make audible sounds of wonder.\r\n In a few weeks we will be talking about happiness and joy and we will use the balloons that have been purchased to play games and fill the classroom. A highlight near the end is inviting the daycare children into the room and hearing their squeals of delight as they wander into balloons deeper than they are.\r\n I'm looking forward to expanding my lessons with the tasting test-strips that were donated. We read for 10 minutes every class period and it has been so fun to watch my students' excitement grow. They were hesitant about wanting to read every day, but now they eagerly grab a book from our book shelf and are engaging in literature in Spanish that will not only strengthen their language skills but also affirm their identities and experiences in meaningful ways. Having a variety of books has made it so that every student can find a book they are interested in.\r\n\r\nLast week we almost didn't have time to read for 10 minutes and students were begging to make sure that we had 20 minutes guaranteed for the next time. I am amazed at how invested they are in these new books and stories. I let them help me open the packages of books as they arrived and it felt like Christmas. \r\n\r\nYour generosity is more than a donation-- it is an investment in our students' futures. The impact of the new desks and furniture has been immediate and profound for all of my students, providing us with the flexible, sturdy, and quiet workspaces we desperately needed to dramatically improve our ability to work in groups. \r\n\r\nFor instance, in our Math of Personal Finance class, students can now seamlessly combine their desks to form larger working pods, giving them the crucial extra space needed to spread out materials and focus on collaborative projects like designing budgets and creating presentations. Similarly, in Language Arts, the new setup makes it easy to transition quickly into meaningful group discussions on novels or persuasive essays, fostering a much higher level of collaborative energy. \r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the new materials was overwhelmingly positive—they were absolutely excited! Our old desks were wobbly and incredibly squeaky, a significant sensory distraction for students, especially those with severe Autism. The shift to these quieter, stable desks has been a game-changer, with students explicitly expressing how much happier they are to have more space and a stable, quiet environment, creating a calmer and more focused classroom atmosphere.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in our students' learning and comfort; you have given them a better opportunity to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1756159056197,"projectUrl":"project/new-tables-for-collaborative-learning-sp/9394757/","projectTitle":"New Tables for Collaborative Learning Space","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6275825"},{"teacherId":8436412,"projectId":9108440,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding this project. With the proper cleaning supplies, they now confidently take care of the tools and workspace—making the lab safer, cleaner, and more organized for everyone.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment was during our recent fish dissection. Students worked together to follow the labeled mats, pointing out anatomical structures with far more confidence than in previous years. The lab felt more like a professional scientific environment, which motivated everyone to take their work seriously.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue to use these materials for upcoming dissections and introduce new units on lab safety and tool maintenance. When the supplies arrived, students were immediately buzzing with excitement—especially over the hermit crab habitat and the brightly colored lava lamp. The dissection mats have made fish dissection much more accessible, guiding students step-by-step and helping them understand the anatomy with confidence. Our toad's mister has made daily care easier, and the timers and storage have helped keep our lab organized and efficient.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching students gather around the lava lamp to see convection currents in action. They made connections between what they observed and the concepts we discussed in earth science, sparking lots of questions and \"aha!\" moments. The hermit crab has also become a classroom favorite, inspiring students to research and discuss animal care and behavior.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're preparing for a series of hands-on investigations where students will use the timers during experiments and the storage bins to keep their materials organized. When the new titles arrived, students were immediately drawn to them—many eagerly scanned the shelves, discussing the covers and reading the summaries. Several students checked out new books right away, excited to dive into stories that reflected different life experiences and perspectives.\r\n\r\nWe use our classroom library daily for independent reading, and these new additions have sparked new conversations and curiosity. One project involved students sampling a variety of genres and then sharing book recommendations with their peers. The excitement over books like \"The Summer I Turned Pretty\" and \"Nick and Charlie\" has led to more students trying new genres and authors, which is helping them become more committed, confident readers. The labeled and organized system has also encouraged students to take ownership of their reading choices and treat the books with care.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue to sample and discuss books, expanding their reading horizons and drawing inspiration for their own writing. The digital clock has been a simple but powerful addition, helping students manage their time and transitions more independently. Students have also started using their new notebooks and folders to keep their work organized, which has helped them feel more prepared and confident.\r\n\r\nWith these resources in place, our next steps include tackling more collaborative projects and encouraging students to take on greater responsibility for their learning and organization. During our first blanket-cutting session for the animal shelter, the new tables gave everyone enough space to work comfortably and efficiently as a team.\r\n\r\nThe collapsible wagon has made transporting supplies for service projects, like sack lunches for the homeless or tutoring materials for elementary students, so much easier. The cooler helped us keep refreshments available during long service days, and the easel has become a central spot for organizing tasks and sharing ideas. Students have taken on more leadership, using the new materials to plan and execute projects from start to finish.
