I have watched my students with ADHD really struggle in my class. I try to have an activity based classroom with lots of movement, but sometimes we really just need to sit down and focus on seat work. This is super hard for some of my students.
I remember a moment watching one particular student who was trying to write with his hands, but his whole lower half was in motion, which he didn't seem to have control over. The pain and frustration in his eyes as he struggled was a very poignant moment for me as I realized that he wasn't a problem student in my class because he wanted to be or he just didn't care. He was challenging because he had a disability that prevented him from learning in the way he wanted to.
I have done some research on what can be done to help ADHD students. There is evidence that allowing students to move with their lower half, could help them focus with their upper half. I would use these balance discs to give them a simple, non-distracting way to move and still keep their upper half still for learning. These would be placed under the feet under the desks of those who need or want them.
