Help me give my student tools that will support them by meeting a variety of sensory needs. Behavior is the most time-consuming challenge that teachers confront every day in their classrooms. These tools will help students to de-escalate or self-regulate when they are overwhelmed or feeling out of control. Much of what students experience in life is out of their control and students often seek escape and safety at school. I want to provide sensory totes for use with our students. I want these totes to include noise-reducing headphones for students who become overwhelmed with typical classroom noise, not to mention atypical events such as assemblies and field trips. I would also include items such as scented Theraputty and sensory desk tools to meet their tactile and olfactory needs as well as expanding sphere balls and liquid motion timers to provide a calming visual stimulus and assist in calming breathing strategies. Various small tactile fidgets will also be included in the totes. Kindermats would also be provided to allow for the students to have a designated comfortable place to sit during breaks.
