Your kindness has already made a meaningful impact on my students and our daily learning environment.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the new social skills games and activities during our Social Living class and in small group instruction to help students practice important life skills such as collaboration, leadership, communication, problem-solving, and kindness. These resources have given my students engaging, hands-on opportunities to work together, take turns, and build positive relationships with one another.\r\n\r\nOne specific classroom moment that stood out happened during a group social skills game focused on teamwork and conversation skills. Students had to work together to solve a challenge, listen to each other's ideas, and encourage one another. I watched one student, who is usually very quiet and hesitant to participate, step into a leadership role by helping guide the group and making sure everyone had a chance to contribute. It was such a proud moment to see their confidence grow in real time.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were immediately excited and curious. They loved the colorful, interactive games and were eager to start using them right away. The rewards system has also been incredibly motivating. Students are genuinely excited to be recognized for showing leadership, collaboration, and kindness, and it has helped reinforce the positive behaviors we work so hard to build in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue incorporating these resources into our weekly social-emotional learning lessons and classroom routines. We are currently focusing on perspective-taking, respectful communication, and collaborative problem-solving. Students will continue practicing these skills through structured games, role-play activities, and opportunities to earn rewards for demonstrating them during both academic and social situations throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and helping create a classroom environment where they feel supported, encouraged, and excited to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1768673214220,"projectUrl":"project/awarding-exceptional-learners/10013977/","projectTitle":"Awarding Exceptional Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lawhorn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9592455"},{"teacherId":5653485,"projectId":10016195,"letterContent":"Thank you very much for your generous contribution to my classroom and to my students.\r\n\r\nIn a classroom with diverse learners, it is essential that our library reflects a wide range of voices, experiences, and interests. As I began to show them all of our new supplies, they were very excited to be able to utilize them within the lessons.\r\n\r\nOur supplies were very basic ones: lined paper, colored pencils, folders. These seemingly simple supplies have really made a difference within the classroom. The students used to have to share their colored pencils whenever we had a project, but now we have enough for every student to have a set to use. Those colored pencils have been very beneficial when we create our historical maps and some of the projects regarding ancient civilizations.\r\n\r\nIn the past, we had to ration our lined paper to make sure we had enough to go around. We now have plenty to be able to use so that the students can have abundant paper to be able to write their essays and be able to show the knowledge that they have learned in each of the content areas. It has also been wonderful to have the folders to keep all of their work in, as to not lose any of the items from their daily tasks.\r\n\r\nYou and your generosity have really made a difference in my classroom. Because of your generosity, my 6th grade students were able to explore science in a hands-on and meaningful way. Many of my students attend a Title I school, so having access to engaging learning materials makes a huge difference in how they experience science.\r\n\r\nStudents were especially excited to work with the anatomy models. They eagerly examined the human skeleton and torso models, identifying bones and organs while making connections to what we've been learning about body systems. The cell model helped them visualize structures they normally only see in diagrams, turning abstract concepts into something they could hold and explore.\r\n\r\nAnother favorite activity was setting up our classroom terrariums. One student carefully assembled the layers while classmates discussed ecosystems and how living things depend on their environment. Your support made it possible for our class to take part in a truly meaningful and memorable project. Creating our blankets was both a fun and hardworking experience for everyone involved, and it quickly became one of the most rewarding activities we have shared together. Throughout the process, the students showed enthusiasm, patience, and creativity as they worked on their blankets. They took great pride in learning how to make something with their own hands from start to finish. The blankets have already proven to be incredibly useful, especially during this very cold weather, and the students love knowing that something they created themselves is helping keep them warm.\r\n\r\nWhat made this project particularly special was the opportunity for each student to make their blanket uniquely their own. I encouraged them to choose their own designs, colors, and patterns, and they eagerly used their imaginations to bring their ideas to life. If you had the chance to watch them work, you would immediately see the dedication and effort they put into every step of the process. Some students carefully planned their patterns before beginning, while others experimented and adjusted their designs as they went along. No two blankets are the same, and that individuality is something the students are very proud of. Each blanket truly reflects the personality and creativity of the student who made it.\r\n\r\nBeyond learning a new skill, this project gave the students a sense of accomplishment and ownership. In a world where many things are ready-made, the experience of creating something from scratch was incredibly meaningful. The students understood that the blankets they were making were not just another classroom activity—they were crafting something they could keep and cherish for years to come. Watching their excitement grow as their blankets slowly came together was truly wonderful. When they finished, many of them held up their blankets with huge smiles, proud of the work they had completed.\r\n\r\nYour generosity played a key role in making this experience possible. Because of your support, my students were able to participate in a creative, hands-on activity that taught them patience, problem-solving, and the value of effort and perseverance. It also gave them something tangible that they can be proud of every time they use it. The joy and sense of accomplishment this project brought to our classroom cannot be overstated.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your kindness and generosity. The colored pencils have already become an essential part of our learning. Students are using them to annotate readings, color-code notes, and create detailed maps and illustrated timelines in social studies. During a recent project, students designed visual representations of ancient civilizations, using the colored pencils to highlight trade routes, geography, and cultural achievements. The printing paper has allowed me to provide high-quality primary source documents and graphic organizers, so students can interact directly with the content rather than just viewing it on a screen. The background books have given students the opportunity to dive deeper into topics we cover, and I've seen so many choose to read them during independent work time to expand their understanding.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were genuinely excited. Something as simple as a fresh set of colored pencils sparked creativity and pride in their work. Several students immediately asked if they could use the new books for research, and others commented on how \"official\" and organized our classroom felt. There is something powerful about having the right tools in their hands—it communicates that their learning matters.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support deeper, project-based learning. Students are beginning a new inquiry project where they will research a historical topic, analyze multiple sources, and create a final visual product to present their findings. The books will serve as foundational research tools, the printing paper will allow us to create resource packets and drafts, and the colored pencils will help students design polished, thoughtful final products.
