While my class is limited to 10 students (because of the extreme behaviors), only 6 of them are with me during the day. (The rest have moved on to other SPED classes.) The technology and classroom resources we received have given my students more opportunities to learn independently, stay focused, and take ownership of their learning. As a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to see students become more confident when they have the tools they need to be successful.\r\n\r\nOne of the resources that has made an immediate impact is our new headphones. My students use technology every day for learning activities, including i-Ready lessons, digital assignments, instructional videos, and activities that require listening. Having reliable headphones allows students to focus on their own learning without being distracted by the sounds around them. This is especially helpful in a classroom where students may be working on different assignments or moving through lessons at different paces. Students can listen carefully to directions, replay information when needed, and work more independently.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also helped my students become more responsible for their learning materials. The headphone pouches give students a designated place to store their headphones, which helps keep our classroom more organized and makes it easier for students to have the materials they need when they need them. My students were excited to receive these resources and quickly learned how to take care of them. Something as simple as having their own headphones has made technology-based learning feel more accessible and manageable for many of my students.\r\n\r\nAnother exciting part of this project is seeing students who sometimes struggle with staying focused become more engaged when they are able to work independently. Some students need to hear directions more than once, while others benefit from being able to pause and review information at their own pace. The technology gives them that flexibility. One recent classroom moment was seeing students use the supplies to complete a history activity while carefully adding details and evidence to show their understanding.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources throughout our history units.
