This year I have learned the benefits of a calming environment and flexible seating! In the past, my students have had the option to sit at our back table or at their desks. This year I purchased 2-round chairs and a rug for my classroom. I thought that these would be a great addition as flexible seating during our silent reading time. I didn't expect my students would want to use them during our instructional and independent work time. The chairs have changed the dynamic of my classroom for the better! When my students have the opportunity to sit in the bean bags they are on task, paying attention to the lesson, and their behaviors have improved! While my students have done very well at sharing, I want to give more students the opportunity to improve their learning by having more seat choices available in my class. I would also like to add a fish aquarium to our classroom. Having an aquarium would create a tranquil and calming environment. Having fish in our classroom will allow students to have a part in observing and caring for a living creature.They’re beautiful and soothing to watch.
