We've already used them for several end-of-year and sports banquets, and having sturdy, reliable tables made set-up smooth and gave our families a clean, professional space to celebrate together. The students appreciated having the proper setup for their special recognition nights, and it made the events feel so much more organized and welcoming.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are expanding how we utilize these tables beyond just formal banquets. Our next steps involve using them to support student-led initiatives, including setting up collaborative workspace stations for club projects, organizing display tables for campus fundraisers, and hosting outdoor community events. I'll have to say when they first saw the materials, they were genuinely surprised since they didn't think anything new was coming to the classroom. These aren't just \"accessories\" to us; they are the literal engines that make our instruments run. Currently, our students are using these resources to refine their tone quality and technical precision during our daily ensemble rehearsals. A standout moment occurred last week during a woodwind sectional: one of our clarinetists, who had been struggling with a chipped, worn-out reed, swapped it for a fresh one from your donation. The look of pure relief on her face when she finally hit a crystal-clear high note without a squeak was a testament to how much \"the right gear\" matters in music education.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from the students when the shipment arrived was nothing short of a \"holiday morning\" vibe in the band room. As soon as I opened the boxes of reeds and valve oils, a wave of excitement spread through the rows. There's a specific kind of joy a brass player feels when they get a bottle of high-grade slide grease that actually stays put, and our woodwind players were practically buzzing to see boxes of premium reeds that didn't require \"nursing\" just to get a sound. It was more than just excitement over new supplies; the students felt a profound sense of validation knowing that there are people in the community who believe in their talent and want them to have the best possible tools for success.\r\n\r\nAs you've caught a glimpse into our classroom through this project, we want you to know that these supplies are the foundation for our next big leap: our upcoming Spring Concert Series. We are currently deep in rehearsals for a challenging grade-four composition that requires intricate articulation and sustained, beautiful phrasing—neither of which is possible with failing equipment. The next step for our students is mastering the balance between sections, a task made infinitely easier now that everyone is playing on reliable, functional gear. A lot of them had never used calligraphy brushes before, so there was a mix of curiosity and focus right away. We started by practicing simple kanji on whiteboards with the new markers, and I noticed students were much more willing to participate. Even some of my quieter students jumped in because they could try, erase, and try again without pressure. One student said it felt \"less stressful\" to practice this way, which really stuck with me. \r\nSince then, we have been using the calligraphy sets to slow down and really focus on stroke order and neatness. It is a great shift that students are taking more pride in their work and paying attention to detail. We also used the origami paper during a culture lesson, where students followed simple Japanese instructions to create designs. It turned into one of those moments where everyone was engaged and helping each other. The stickers have also been a fun way to recognize effort, and students get really excited about earning them. \r\nNext, we were working toward a small class display where students would show their best calligraphy piece and an origami project, along with a short Japanese description. It is great to see their confidence grow, not just in writing, but in being willing to try something new. These materials have made a real difference in how students engage with the class, and I am really grateful for that.","fullyFundedDate":1771365503504,"projectUrl":"project/writing-folding-and-creating-bringing/10052542/","projectTitle":"Writing, Folding, and Creating: Bringing Japanese Culture to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katashima","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8113885_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707961514257","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8113885"},{"teacherId":4496187,"projectId":10014699,"letterContent":"The addition of our new 3D printer in the library has empowered students to turn ideas into tangible creations and explore future-ready STEM skills.
