As a school counselor my ultimate goal is to help students achieve academically, but more and more this involves helping students with their social and emotional learning. This fits with the mindset standard 1 set up by the American School Counseling Association that says that counselors should help student to have a "Belief in development of whole self, including a health balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being." This comfort corner will help students to cope with stresses at school, by creating a place that to foster that mental, social and physical well being. I would like to foster an environment that not only helps students to cope but that also teaches techniques that can help students to cope with the challenges of school and life.
