Also, some have little artistic talent so they will use digital means to complete their work.\r\n\r\nAfter reading Macbeth, students were asked to make new book covers to attract new readers. Students used both physical drawing and online resources to create their book covers. The pictures are only a small sampling, but now my digital artists have equal opportunity to display their work. Students are excited to be able to create color prints for some of their work. \r\n\r\nIt is a pleasure to see students get excited knowing that their art work is going to be displayed. It also gets them to think about how their colors will interact when printing. Many students went above and beyond when it came to creating things, such as going all-out in making science-themed Valentine cards. It also made a noticeable difference when we received the vehicle wheels, as the efforts students were putting into creating their own wheels out of cardboard, bottle caps, etc, were not working out as hoped!\r\n\r\nThe rock hand samples have been great for both my Physics and Geoscience classes. Geo is obvious, but even in Physics I have been able to discuss how light waves, magnetism, and other physics concepts work in relation to rock formations and appearances. \r\n\r\nAs for the yoga balls--the students who needed them the most for bouncing out energy, noticed them immediately and requested to use them in class. Having somewhere to direct their energy so that they can focus on learning and other tasks at hand has been incredibly useful. We also used the Light Houses to carry out an artificial selection project, and students successfully shifted a trait across generations by choosing specific parent plants.\r\n\r\nOur next step is using the Large Post‑it Notes to build group models that explain how genes, traits, environment, and selection all interacted in their plants. The impact of these materials was immediate and profound, serving as the primary engine for our recent architectural design charrettes. Watching our classroom transform into a professional studio environment was truly inspiring, and it was made possible entirely through your support.\r\n\r\nThe combination of trace paper, Sharpies, and highlighters proved to be the perfect toolkit for professional-grade spatial communication. Rather than getting bogged down in the rigid perfectionism of a single floor plan, students used rolls of trace paper to layer their thoughts, allowing them to \"sketch over\" existing footprints and visualize three-dimensional massing in real-time. This fluidity was essential when working with our professional mentors; it turned a simple conversation into a dynamic workshop where design ideas could be tested and discarded at the speed of thought.\r\n\r\nWith the guidance of these professionals, students didn't just stop at their first draft. They used Sharpies to define bold structural lines and highlighters to call out solar orientation and circulation paths, creating multiple design iterations that allowed them to fine-tune their final concepts with a high level of sophistication. These supplies acted as a vital bridge between student creativity and professional expertise, facilitating a meaningful dialogue that taught our students how to communicate like the architects of tomorrow. Your support provided more than just art supplies; you provided the medium for mentorship and the tools for professional growth.","fullyFundedDate":1768610607608,"projectUrl":"project/whats-in-a-diagram/10019528/","projectTitle":"What's in a Diagram?","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Knoeppel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8159503_orig.jpg?crop=390,390,x57,y59&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637083945436","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8159503"},{"teacherId":8217069,"projectId":9992251,"letterContent":"Students were able to predict the genetics of their chosen phenotypes of fish. One memorable moment was during a collaborative activity where students created visual representations of key concepts, using color and design to organize their thinking. It not only helped them better understand the material, but also made their learning visible in a way that sparked deeper conversations among their peers.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were genuinely excited. Having access to these supplies gave them a sense of ownership over their work and encouraged more participation, especially from students who don't always speak up. My students actively engage with several pieces of literature in my class. The majority of them are older works of literature from the literary canon and are wonderful pieces of literature. However, the one thing most of them don't do is provide a modern reading experience that sparks their love for reading. \r\n Over the last few years, I have been able to teach both Poisonwood Bible, The Kite Runner, and other meaningful literature in my classes. While they are fantastic books that create complex experiences with rich themes and characters, there are only two to choose from.\r\n Now with my new book, The Nickel Boys, I am able to create a modern literary experience for my students. They will be able to read literature from a more diverse set of authors and backgrounds. This novel will provide my students the ability to reflect on societal issues and trends and look at real-word problems. Most of my students will read what is expected of them, but these novels provide a stronger motivation to read and will, hopefully, foster a true love for reading. \r\n I work hard to prepare my students for the AP exam, but I do not often get the chance to simply let them read and experience literature. The Nickel Boys along with The Kite Runner and Where the Crawdads Sing will \"cultivate their understanding of literature through reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works.\" (AP College Board) AP College Board fosters an open-mind approach to literature through the study of different nationalities, cultures, religions, races, and ethnicities. (AP CB correspondence) Because of this, I am passionate of the literature I get to teach my students, and I am excited that I get to offer them yet another title to read.\r\n Thank you again for supporting my request. It means the world to my students who have already giggled with joy after hearing that I was funded to get them another piece of literature and the ability to allow them to create their own literary circle of discussion. \r\n Next year, I'm hoping to teach The Nickel Boys to all of my classes.","fullyFundedDate":1768505412016,"projectUrl":"project/reading-modern-lit-in-ap-lit-is-a-must/10016033/","projectTitle":"Reading Modern Lit in AP Lit is a MUST!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shriner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10402946"},{"teacherId":7860909,"projectId":9994320,"letterContent":"I am incredibly grateful for the generous grant provided through the Department of Education.
