Social-emotional learning is important for students. Students need to feel like they are in a place to learn. When materials are lacking, it is sometimes hard to create that feeling. Online videos and simulations only did so much for my students during the shutdown. They unfortunately were still missing out on key science and engineering practices. My students lost critical science experience during the closure, The requested resources were selected to directly give students a way to gain some of that lost experience back. Students would be able to actually measure the oxygen output of an aqueous plant and link it to standards such as (HS-LS1-5) instead of using simulations that they were exposed to during the closure. Additionally, my students would be able to see how much oxygen is being circulated in their actual bodies to better understand the circulatory system (Anatomy 7.4). Performing actual science would give my students the emotional connection they need to want to tell their peers of what they have learned. Manila folders and posters are great ways for students to express their lab findings and understanding to the world.
