The buzzers have made a huge difference in how our team practices. Quiz bowl is not just about knowing the right answer. Students also have to recognize clues quickly, decide when they know enough to take a chance, and buzz in before the other team. Having the same type of equipment they use at tournaments makes our practices feel much more like actual matches.\r\n\r\nThe students were excited as soon as we opened the box. Everyone wanted to choose a buzzer, test the lights, and start competing. The system has brought a lot of new energy to our practices, and even a normal review session feels more exciting when the buzzers are involved. Students get immediate feedback about who buzzed first, which helps them work on their timing and learn when to be more confident in their answers.\r\n\r\nI have especially enjoyed watching some of our newer and quieter students become more comfortable participating. Students who were once hesitant to answer are now much more willing to take a chance and buzz in. Because everyone has their own buzzer, each student gets an equal opportunity to participate and contribute to the team. With our new 3D printer, students explored a variety of models and applied their understanding of volume and surface area in a hands-on, meaningful way. Some of the models they chose presented significant challenges, which led to great mathematical discussions about how we could approximate the volume of irregular objects.\r\n\r\nOne especially valuable feature was the ability of the 3D printing software to calculate the amount of PLA needed for each model. This gave students a way to verify their estimates and see how mathematics could be used to solve a real-world problem.\r\nThe printer also sparked interest well beyond our math lessons. Students began exploring how they could design and create objects connected to their other interests and activities. Our Miniatures Club, in particular, jumped at the opportunity to create models and terrain for their club projects and games.\r\n\r\nUltimately, this grant has opened so many doors for exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and mathematical thinking. Students are asked to incorporate artistic elements for their projects, but many of my students are using online drawing programs and their tablets. Students used both physical drawing and online resources to create their book covers. The pictures are only a small sampling, but now my digital artists have equal opportunity to display their work. Students are excited to be able to create color prints for some of their work. \r\n\r\nIt is a pleasure to see students get excited knowing that their art work is going to be displayed. It also gets them to think about how their colors will interact when printing. Students are also able to create color prints for their other classes, making their presentations more interesting and more vibrant. Many students went above and beyond when it came to creating things, such as going all-out in making science-themed Valentine cards. It also made a noticeable difference when we received the vehicle wheels, as the efforts students were putting into creating their own wheels out of cardboard, bottle caps, etc, were not working out as hoped!\r\n\r\nThe rock hand samples have been great for both my Physics and Geoscience classes. Geo is obvious, but even in Physics I have been able to discuss how light waves, magnetism, and other physics concepts work in relation to rock formations and appearances. \r\n\r\nAs for the yoga balls--the students who needed them the most for bouncing out energy, noticed them immediately and requested to use them in class. Having somewhere to direct their energy so that they can focus on learning and other tasks at hand has been incredibly useful. When the materials arrived, my students were immediately curious and excited to set them up. The Light Houses became the centerpiece of our Wisconsin Fast Plants investigation, and they allowed us to observe real genetic patterns in a way we've never been able to before.\r\n\r\nStudents collected data from their plants and were able to identify the classic 9:3:3:1 phenotypic ratio in their own results (a powerful moment where textbook genetics became something they could actually see). We also used the Light Houses to carry out an artificial selection project, and students successfully shifted a trait across generations by choosing specific parent plants.\r\n\r\nOur next step is using the Large Post‑it Notes to build group models that explain how genes, traits, environment, and selection all interacted in their plants. These models will be shared in a gallery walk so students can compare results and refine their explanations.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made this hands‑on, authentic science experience possible. Now students have access to items such as tape, rulers, scissors, glue sticks and more without needing to question if I have any of them. Additionally, students are able to use more of the crafting materials such as the googly eyes.\r\nWhen students first saw all the materials and the organization they were happy that they knew exactly where they could get them and where to return them. \r\nI am also able to use the materials to prepare items needed for class such as the paper cutter and the automatic stapler.
