The boom microphone and lighting equipment will be used to create short films, documentaries, and PSAs during the school year. The boom microphone will help produce better audio and also give them practice with industry-standard equipment. Lighting reflectors help make the films look more cinematic and also let students experiment with different lighting techniques. The short films and documentaries are being entered into multiple contests and are also used to build their career portfolios. My students are also in charge of our school's announcements where they create PSA's for the student body. For this year, they are focusing on building a school community because half of our students have not been on campus and barely know each other. The class has also been working in conjunction with our student council and other clubs on campus helping to create videos that promote events, special causes, and mental health awareness. The standards that will be addressed are CTE standard 3.2.3 Demonstrate proper placement of microphones for effective audio. CTE standard 3.2.4Connect microphone(s) to various audio equipment using the proper cables and/or adapters. CTE standard 3.3.3 Utilize various light sources (e.g., natural light, reflectors, portable lights, etc.).
