The iFixit Chromebook repair kits, magnetic holder trays, and Raspberry Pis have transformed our students from everyday technology users into confident problem solvers, technicians, and creators. With the iFixit kits and magnetic trays, students now safely open, diagnose, and repair real Chromebooks that classmates depend on. They've learned to identify components, follow professional repair guides, and complete delicate screen repairs with confidence. That moment when a \"dead\" Chromebook boots up again because of their work, this has given many students a new sense of pride, ownership, and even interest in future careers in IT and hardware repair.\r\n\r\nThe Raspberry Pis have been dedicated to running digital flyers through PiSignage, turning our school announcements into a fully student managed system. Students design the flyers, upload them, and control what appears on the screens around campus, blending creativity with responsibility as they keep the school informed. The protein bars and applesauce snacks you provided have also made a real difference: many students come in during lunch or after school to work on repairs and signage, and having something healthy to eat has boosted their energy, focus, and motivation to stay engaged. Some of our quieter learners have especially flourished, one has become our go to Chromebook repair technician, another now leads digital poster design for the entire school. As an early childhood educator working with the Nevada Prekindergarten program, funding resources can often be a struggle. Due to your generosity our students were able to receive much needed supplies that help in their growth, development and imagination. \r\nMajority of the items I requested were to strengthen and develop fine motor skills through hands on play. Using the shape stencils, the children were able to one, identify shapes, two use one hand to hold the stencil in place while simultaneously using their dominant hand to hold a writing tool to trace the shape and last their imagination and creativity to design something with the shapes. Lacing cards are also considered a fine motor tool where children work using their dominant hand. They use their fingers to manipulate the string in and out around a picture. This strengthens their fingers and helps prepare them for writing. I chose animal and transportation stencils to take the learning a step further. We had a unit on Transportation where children learned about different forms of transportation and how they can get a person from point A to point B. The animal stencils were utilized during our animal unit, where children learned about what biomes animals live in and how they live. Both stencils enhanced learning while also helping with finger dexterity. \r\nIn addition, I asked for Sensory mats, that we utilize in our Cozy area for children who may need a moment to calm their bodies, reflect on emotions, or possibly just having a hard drop off in the morning. The sensory mats provide children with a sense of touch, and often when a child can touch things that are soft, hard, rough, smooth, it takes their mind off what was troubling them. This truly deescalates their emotions and helps them reset. Afterwards they are ready to join back in the daily routine of the room. \r\nNext, the nonfrightening animal masks that I requested for children to explore and play in dramatic play area, was a super big hit! The children during our unit Animals were able to use their imagination and pretend they were animals in the wild. What they didn't realize was that while playing with the masks they were also working and strengthening their self-help skills by putting the mask on and off. For the children they were just in the moment, having fun and being children. Also, in the dramatic play area the children were able to play with the pretend birthday cake I requested. As the teachers, we were able to use this fun, hands-on engaging play to teach fractions. The children were learning about whole, half, a quarter, and even two thirds. This was amazing to be part of; they had no clue what they were learning for them, it was all about the play. The best thing was that teaching through play we were able to gain observations with children recalling what we went over and using math terminology and vocabulary. This provides children with a love for mathematics.\r\nLastly, watercolor paints, this is absolutely one of PreK's favorite things. They highly enjoy painting with numerous different colors, mixing and creating new colors. What I am observing is their hand preference, fine motor control and finger dexterity, imagination, creativity, and language development. \r\nDue to your generosity, I can build a foundation for children to gain a love of learning and growing all while developing fine motor skills, self-help skills, math skills, and imagination. I truly thank you, as do my children.","fullyFundedDate":1768755632287,"projectUrl":"project/strengthening-fine-motor-development-thr/10037272/","projectTitle":"Strengthening Fine Motor Development Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10403050_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768844956492","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10403050"},{"teacherId":9352095,"projectId":10012879,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my counseling office has truly transformed into a warm, welcoming space where students feel safe, supported, and cared for. The shelving unit and bins have allowed me to organize my PBIS store, and the snacks have become a meaningful tool in both celebration and support.\r\n\r\nThrough my PBIS system, students earn points for positive behavior and are able to \"shop\" for snacks like Cheez-Its, Takis, chips, and Pop-Tarts. These same snacks have also made a powerful impact during counseling moments. For example, when a student is having a tough day, feeling overwhelmed, or just needs a little extra care, offering a snack has become a simple but meaningful way to build connection and comfort.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to continue using these resources to reinforce positive behavior and to support students' social-emotional growth. As I build small counseling groups and continue classroom lessons on coping skills and emotional regulation, the PBIS store will remain a consistent incentive, while the snacks will continue to support students during moments when they need it most.
