What's better than just sitting at the desk all day writing? Being creative! When students are able to use their hands for more than writing math problems and site words, it opens up an entire different world for them. Using objects like buttons to work out math problems gives the students a better understanding of new math concepts. These items will give my students more room to explore their create minds. When students are reading new books and learning about characters, having materials to use to create and retell stories makes them want to read more. Also, using scissors and glue to cut and paste story lines from beginning to end increases the students ability to understand order of events. I've learned that using things other than pencil and paper to help educate students will keep them engaged and interested in learning.
