We do not teach math to young students in order to prepare them all to become professional mathematicians. Similarly, we are not teaching digital storytelling in order to crank out a new generation of Hollywood Filmmakers. Instead we are helping learners to develop cooperative skills, to enhance their problem-solving abilities, and to participate in cultural and social processes as capable, engaged interpreters. Students will use the Light boxes to build the stopmotion sets and backdrops. The light boxes will keep the sets evenly lit. They will use the Lego people as their characters within their animations. The Lego people work extremely well because you're able to manipulate the different parts of their bodies to move them. The Lego flats will enable the students to pose the Mimi figures and hold them in place. My students will collaborate to create short scripts and storyboards in order to prepare for their movies. They will then create the sets and shoot the films utilizing stop motion software on ipads. The students will then edit the footage using wevideo.com. The students will create various films from PSA's on the environment and issues that are important to them, to commercials and short stories.
