The markers, scissors, and glue have become part of our daily routine and are helping students engage more actively in mathematics. When students first saw that each table had its own supply box stocked with the materials they needed, they were excited and ready to get started. Instead of waiting for supplies to be distributed, students can immediately jump into solving problems, sharing ideas, and collaborating with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOne of the ways we have been using these supplies is through interactive note-taking and study guide creation. As we work through new concepts, students use scissors and glue to cut and organize important information from their notes into personalized reference sheets. This process encourages them to think critically about what information is most important, how ideas connect, and how to organize concepts in a way that makes sense to them. The dry erase markers are used daily on whiteboards as students work through problems, test different strategies, explain their reasoning, and revise their thinking when they make mistakes.\r\n\r\nAs we move into our next units, students will continue using these resources to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and prepare for assessments. The ability to quickly collaborate, create study tools, and actively participate in problem-solving helps build both confidence and independence. Visual learners—a significant portion of my classroom—rely on color to identify patterns, distinguish between elements on graphs, and understand relationships between numbers.\r\n\r\nWhen students use different colors to highlight operations in equations or mark key information in word problems, they engage more deeply and retain concepts longer. Color transforms overwhelming worksheets into organized, approachable learning experiences.\r\n\r\nI've seen struggling students breakthrough when given these tools. A student who couldn't track multi-step problems succeeds when each step has its own color. Another who found proofs confusing begins to see logical connections through color-coded theorems.\r\n\r\nThese aren't extras—they're essential learning tools that help every student access math in ways that work for their brain. I didn't really understand how much I needed a new system. With the new computer, I can run the projector, the SmartBoard, and the Promethean Board all at the same time. Students can work on the tactile boards, and keep the main board for displaying my screen or camera. I think that's hard to imagine from the outside. Think of it like this; students are up and engaged with the technology and using modern high-tech equipment. I think there's often an expectation that students will learn those soft skills in school, but without updated technology to run those pieces, they're just decoration.\r\n It makes a real difference to have a computer that can keep up with modern apps. The old system would struggle so I didn't use the apps available to the students since it wouldn't work anyway. The new computer allows me to view their computers, and for the students to share their screens with the class. It's helped get more students involved because some students don't like to stand and deliver in front of others.\r\n I expect this new computer will take me to the end of my career, so the impact will remain consistent for a decade (if not more).
