As a Learning Lab teacher, I help students from Shakespeare, to algebra, from WWII to Punnett squares in biology. My students range from grades 9-12, so along with helping them prepare for college, I prepare them for job hunting. I’m proud of my students both past and present. Many have persevered with profound disabilities and yet have graduated to attend college. I want you to hear their voices. One of my students wrote, “I got sick with something called Guillain Barre Syndrome, which left me paralyzed from the neck down. Halfway through my junior year, this is when I finally decided to change because I remembered seeing my mother next to me, praying in the hospital, hoping that I would survive. I knew right then and there that I had to make something of myself so that I could help my mom when I’m older. “
