When students saw the games, they were excited and wanted to quickly grab the games to play, but we had to set some rules first so that these gifts would last. Shortly after, students grabbed the games they wanted and rushed off to sit with peers and play. Every day of the week, as long as school was in session, students would come upstairs from lunch to play games in class.\r\n\r\nGames like Bananagrams, Headbandz, and Guess Who were used by my class and also by teachers of English Language Learners to help students practice the English language. Students would use their knowledge and what they have learned to practice speaking in English and/or creating English words. With Bananagrams, students had to make as many English words as they could in, then we would go over it and everyone would repeat the word and discuss what it meant. The Diamond Art was mainly used in After School where students were able to listen to music while creating their Diamond Art masterpieces. Some found this to be relaxing. The Pool Table game has been special as this was the game one particular student wished for. He was so happy when we received it, that he wanted to play this all the time. This Pool Table game was only used during after school as we had more time there than during lunch club. The boys really enjoyed this. Games like Tapple, Pizza Party Dice Game, Spot It, and Operation had students competing with one another as they raced to beat the other students and be the winner.\r\n\r\nAll in all, students have enjoyed themselves this 2025-2026 school year! Many of these same students returned to school for the 2026-2027 school year and have been asking when we would have game club or after school again. Students have enjoyed coming upstairs for lunch to play games with fellow classmates. It even got to the point where students from other classes, students I didn't know, wanted to join our lunch club to socialize and play games as well. It has been really nice seeing students come together, play games, and socialize with one another, even if they may not speak the same language or can communicate with each other properly, they were able to come together and enjoy playing games with each other.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were very excited and wanted to see all the games we had. Students started shouting out which game they wanted to play first. Many times, students would even call dibs on a game as soon as they walked into the classroom. (Students would get picked up from the cafeteria and brought upstairs to their classroom.) There were times when during after school students would ask if they could play the games.\r\n\r\nOverall the socialization skills increased with these students. As I've mentioned before some of these students are English Language Learners and some are Special Education Students. During the lunch club, students were able to engage with one another through the use of games without a barrier holding them back. This was possible because of you! Part of what makes it so cool is the coffee house vibe and an ice maker helps with cold water, iced coffee, and iced tea.
