My students are wonderful and loving individuals who try their best to get their work done. Although some may lose focus and cause distractions to others, students care about their grades and want to do better. When students have created bonds with one another, they will protect each other like family. They love to joke around, knowing they have done a good job, and sharing their work with classmates. My school environment is very supportive and celebrates students' successes no matter how small. If students move up two reading levels, for instance, they receive a certificate for having improved and are encouraged to continue reading every day. Many students read below their grade level making grade level texts and state tests inaccessible to them. As a result, some do not want to try and often feel defeated. I want students to have confidence in themselves and in skills learned to help them figure out what they do not understand. I want students to be proud of their work and effort.
