We meet aside regular classes to review the general curriculum and fill in the gaps in our skills. We don't get grades and often snack together, or play educational games aimed at supplementing our understanding of class lessons and concepts. We also talk, and share in order to support each other in an environment safe from the pressures and judgments of general ed. There are no grades in SETSS. We circumvent the stigma by focusing on engaging activities, rewarding ourselves with stickers, snacks, (and often bragging rights) and create a congratulatory community for our efforts. These bean bag chairs would be an awesome contribution! Reading in the comfort of a squishy bean bag chair as though for fun and among friends would inspire the kind of affinity for reading, thinking, scholastic discussion that remains motivating for a lifetime.
