Instead of relying on stock images or teacher-taken photos, students now practice real communication skills framing shots, recording details, interviewing classmates, and capturing authentic agricultural experiences. They are learning how to visually represent leadership, teamwork, livestock care, and community service. This hands-on experience strengthens not only their technical skills but also their confidence and pride in the work they do.\r\n\r\n\r\nOur students love that the camera helps them tell their story. They are excited to see their photos published in our FFA newsletter, displayed in classrooms, and shared with parents and community members. Being the photographers and storytellers gives them a sense of professionalism like they are running a real communications team. The instant feedback of seeing their images come to life motivates them to improve their shots, collaborate more, and think creatively.\r\n\r\n\r\nYes! We have several students who once struggled to participate in written or verbal leadership activities but have found their voice behind the lens. One quiet student who rarely spoke in class has become our lead photographer planning shots, experimenting with angles, and proudly organizing photo folders for publication. Another student with an interest in graphic design has begun editing photos and pairing them with article layouts. These texts have not only opened up a world in which our students are able to read stories from people who look like them, and who come from the same cultures, but they are able to see themselves in stories of resilience, adventure, love, and opportunity. \r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is led by student choice and facilitated by student book clubs. This allows students to practice autonomy in what they choose to read, while also keeping them accountable to follow through. Students practice annotating vocab, key events, questions they have about the text, and what they would do differently if they were in the story. Students in biology dissected flowers in a STEM lab and were able to see a single grain of pollen under the microscope.
