My students are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. The majority are below poverty level, and yet, you would never know. Some of my students time at school is their only time to be kids. Several hold jobs after school to help support their families. Others take care of all their siblings while their parents are busy working two or maybe even three jobs just to keep their family a float. My students are also majority ELLs. Sometimes the language is a little too much to handle, especially if a class is all about lectures. My students need more from education than just a teacher talking at them, to really see their potential they need to be fully engaged in something that is worth their time. My school is small. I would describe it as a family. We don't have very much technology or even enough books for each student, but we get by on what we have and try our best to make the most of every thing we do.
