At first, the students were a mix of happy and nervous; they were excited to have a tool just for them but a bit intimidated by the high-tech nature of the devices. However, that hesitation quickly faded. Now, they use them with total confidence every single hour, and it has become a natural part of their classroom routine. Seeing that initial nerves turn into a sense of belonging has been the most rewarding part of this process.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this product truly exciting for the students is the incredible speed of the technology. The translation happens almost instantly from ear to ear, allowing them to follow my instructions in real-time without the usual lag or confusion. This \"live\" connection makes them feel like they are finally part of the conversation as it is happening, rather than trying to catch up minutes later. It has removed the communication barrier that used to make the weight room or the classroom a stressful environment for them.\r\n\r\nI currently have four students using these devices, and the impact has been life-changing for their academic and social growth. These particular students have warmed to the technology because it gives them independence; they no longer have to rely on a peer to translate every word I say. They can follow the workout logs, understand safety instructions, and even joke with their classmates. This technology hasn't just helped them learn—it has given them a voice and the confidence to participate fully alongside their peers.","fullyFundedDate":1763762278583,"projectUrl":"project/real-time-translation/9906752/","projectTitle":"Real Time Translation","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Guthery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10111050"},{"teacherId":6603341,"projectId":8863730,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity. To date, in addition to facilitating normal class operations, the computers have been used to guide my AP Biology class to reputable scientific sources and simulations.\r\n\r\nIn addition to normal class operations, such as accessing the College Board AP Classroom, the computers have been used to demonstrate how to search PubMed for peer-reviewed biomedical research literature. Additionally, how to use GenBank, a genetic sequence database operated by the National Institutes of Health, to access all publicly available DNA sequences was demostrated to the students. Additionally, I introduced students to Google Scholar, PubChem, and other resources to help them access peer-reviewed scientific content of interest to them.\r\n\r\nThe computers have also been used to simulate scientific processes essential to life. We have used PhET's Interactive Simulations, which provide vivid demonstrations of various scientific methods for exploring membrane transport and bond polarity. Comming up this semester, we will use the simulator to explore the essentials of gene expression and natural selection, among other biological processes.\r\n\r\nThe above uses of the computers are only a small insight into how the computers you helped purchase for the students will be used over the coming years.
