I immediately put them to use with my students creating engaging lessons that tied into the theme of each book and met the state standards for learning.\r\n\r\nIt was beyond cute to sit at a kitchen table with a 7th grader, 5th grader, 3rd grader, and pre-k little and have them all be totally dialed in to a picture book about bats or butterflies. \r\n\r\nOnce they were hooked I got to turn them loose onto age specific lessons. My littles might match lower and upper case letters a complete a hands on one-to-one correspondence activity. My mids would create diagrams or graphs relating to our book of the day as well as dig deeper into the featured animal through a sister text and create beautifully crafted, evidence backed short answers. \r\n\r\nThen when we had all completed our various tasks we would come back together for a multi-age directed draw and we all left with smiles on our faces. \r\n\r\nIt was so fun to source activities for each grade and content area and know that I would get to crack the spine of a brand new, beautiful book with my littles and cross those curricular lines with them. \r\n\r\nI've started a new year with a new batch of students and these dudes LOVE books and LOVE animals and I cannot wait to share these texts with them too!\r\n\r\nThank you so very much. It would have taken me years to accumulate these on my own and you made it happen in a matter of days. Thank you for being so generous with children (and a teacher!) you have (likely) never met.
