It is appreciated more than I can say. I started this project because I wanted to be able to put a book in all of my students' hands. Many of my students do not have books of their own at home, because many of them come from low economic backgrounds. I want my students to have the same love of reading that I do, I want them to be able to practice their reading skills using high quality books at home. Getting this project funded has allowed me to do that! The project has allowed me to give my students new books three times during the school year, once in the fall, winter and spring. The first time I gave my kiddos their books to take home, they were so excited. It is because of your generous donation, I was able to do that. I am able to foster the love of reading in my students thanks to your generous donation. I have been wanting the items in my project for quite sometime and getting them delivered to my classroom , was a dream come true, a dream that you helped create! Thank you!\r\nTo say my students were beyond excited is an understatement. The item they were most excited for were the pillow cushion seats. They use them everyday during independent reading time. The pillow allow my students to read comfortably while sitting on the floor. They were also very excited about the rolling carts, each table group got their own cart to organize all their materials. The carts were something they were looking forward to, I know it sounds silly but they were so excited to be able to organize all their whiteboards, Word Maps, Headphones, erasers, and science materials near their desks. \r\nThe items, I was most excited about were the cleaning wipes and word map boards. I have been wanting Word Map boards since I saw another teacher on Instagram talking about what a great resource they were for her students. Oh, they are, we use them weekly when making new words during phonics. I look forward to using all the items that were in my project and thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1750791368424,"projectUrl":"project/stuff-for-our-classroom/9297733/","projectTitle":"Stuff for Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lenahan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4565555_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1500913800467","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4565555"},{"teacherId":6627644,"projectId":9990309,"letterContent":"The graphic novels from this project have had a powerful impact on our school library and student reading engagement. These texts support essential literacy skills such as comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary development, and making inferences by pairing visual storytelling with text. Students use illustrations to support understanding of plot, characters, and dialogue, which helps them navigate texts independently and feel more confident when selecting books on their own.\r\n\r\nReading in the library now looks highly engaged and student-driven. These graphic novels are consistently checked out, often with waitlists, and students frequently recommend titles to peers during library visits. Many students are choosing to reread books or continue with full series, which builds reading stamina and fluency. Library visits have become more interactive, with increased conversations about books and greater excitement around checkout.\r\n\r\nThese books have been especially impactful for reluctant readers and students who previously struggled to find books that matched their interests and reading comfort level. Students who once hesitated to check out books are now eager to visit the library, browse the shelves, and share their reading choices with pride. Overall, this project has strengthened our library collection and helped create a welcoming, inclusive space where all students feel motivated and successful as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1768064170543,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-kids-cant-put-down/9990309/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels Kids Can't Put Down","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6627644_orig.jpg?crop=476,476,x0,y52&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1632147749350","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6627644"},{"teacherId":2320224,"projectId":9925801,"letterContent":"Thank you for generously donating drum pads for my students to use in the music room. For many students with autism, large group activities can feel overwhelming due to sensory input, transitions, and close proximity to peers. The clearly defined seating spaces on the carpet help reduce anxiety by giving each child a personal, predictable spot. This simple structure supports smoother transitions into circle time, reduces challenging behaviors, and helps students visually understand where they belong in the group. As a result, students who once struggled to remain with the class are now able to sit with their peers, attend to instruction, and participate more fully.\r\n\r\nBeyond behavior support, the circle carpet strengthens critical academic, communication, and social-emotional skills. During daily lessons, students use the carpet for early literacy activities, songs, calendar time, and social skills instruction. The visual layout helps students follow routines, take turns, raise hands, and practice appropriate peer interactions. For many of our students, especially those who are nonverbal or emerging communicators, the carpet provides a consistent space where gestures, visual cues, and peer modeling naturally support learning. Students grow in their ability to imitate actions, respond to questions, and engage in shared activities. Over time, we see increased eye contact, longer attention spans, improved self-regulation, and stronger peer connections—all fostered through the consistent use of the carpet during structured group learning.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the circle carpet creates a sense of belonging and community for students who often struggle with social connection. It transforms our classroom into a shared learning space where every child has a place, a role, and a voice. The carpet supports inclusion, helping students feel secure enough to take risks, try new skills, and build confidence. Because of this tool, our students are not only learning academic content—they are learning how to be part of a group, how to listen, how to wait, and how to engage with others in meaningful ways. These are life-long skills that extend far beyond the preschool classroom. The impact of the circle carpet is seen every day in calmer transitions, joyful participation, and growing independence, making it one of the most valuable foundations for learning in our autism program.","fullyFundedDate":1691015398076,"projectUrl":"project/light-it-up-in-pre-k/7577005/","projectTitle":"Light It Up in Pre-k","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kathy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7385196"},{"teacherId":2455267,"projectId":9509298,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my Donors Choose project. Your support made a tangible difference in a recent project, where my students created stunning two-point perspective cities. The versatility of these pencils allowed students to precisely sketch the architectural details and then, with the addition of water, transform their drawings into beautiful, wash-filled paintings. This medium was a game-changer, giving them the control of a pencil and the beautiful fluidity of paint, resulting in truly vibrant and professional-looking cityscapes.\r\n\r\nThe watercolor pencils weren't just a tool; they were a key component of a much broader artistic journey. This unit also included an exploration of Post-Impressionist art and the vivid, expressive work of Vincent van Gogh. My students used the rich colors and blending capabilities of the pencils to emulate his expressive mark-making and dramatic skies, connecting a historical master's technique with their own contemporary work. Your gift helped me bridge the gap between teaching about art history and having the students actively create with methods inspired by it, making the lessons far more engaging and memorable.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students' creativity and education.
