These books are supporting students as they build reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence through engaging, accessible stories. Because the texts are high-interest and appropriately matched for beginning readers, students are able to experience success and stay motivated as they grow as readers.\r\n\r\nIn independent reading time, students are excited to choose books that match their interests. Reading practice includes buddy reading and independent reading where students practice fluency, discuss stories, and build comprehension skills. The Crabby books have been a clear favorite among many students, while others have especially enjoyed the Fox Tails series, which has sparked enthusiasm and conversation.\r\n\r\nEven in a short time, these books have increased student engagement and willingness to read independently. Students are beginning to see themselves as capable, confident readers, and having a variety of engaging texts available has made reading time more exciting and meaningful. We look forward to continuing to build on this momentum as students grow their skills and love of reading. These books have been a wonderful way to help students strengthen decoding, fluency, comprehension, and character analysis skills while still feeling successful as readers. One feature students especially enjoy is the map at the front of the book. As the story mentions streets and landmarks, students can refer back to the map for support, which helps provide a visual connection and strengthens comprehension.\r\n\r\nThe main characters, Miguel and Clarke, are also incredibly relatable for my students. They are constantly asking questions about the characters and wanting to know what will happen next. Because the books all take place in the same neighborhood with the same characters, it will be much easier to teach character development and help students make connections across stories. Reading in our intervention groups has become more engaging and discussion-based because students are truly invested in the stories and characters.\r\n\r\nThese books have helped create positive reading experiences where students feel excited, confident, and motivated to keep reading. One of the most memorable moments was when we collectively planted the terrariums. They were absolutely thrilled to pour soil, add rocks, carefully arrange each layer and plant the seeds. They engaged in exciting and curious conversations about how long it would take the seed to sprout and what they had to do to maintain them. During our group time before we started the terrariums they were aware that we would have to be patient while providing care by watering and ensuring that the terrariums receive sunlight. Each student was assigned a job like watering, setting the plant outside or ensuring the terrariums are charged and the lights were on them at the end of the day. This helped them begin to understand responsibility, patience, and the life cycle of plants. \r\nAs we move forward, we will continue building more skills about gardening through drawings and discussions documenting the growth of the terrariums and expanding our gardening unit into lessons about plant parts, seeds, the role of gardens, and produce. \r\nYour support has truly helped bring learning to life for our Pre-K students.","fullyFundedDate":1768164655751,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-curiosity-and-learning-in-pre-k/9999632/","projectTitle":"Fueling Curiosity and Learning in Pre-K","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Algie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8138982_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768016362474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8138982"},{"teacherId":9063945,"projectId":10007252,"letterContent":"The donated colored printer has already made a powerful impact in our second-grade classroom. Being able to provide students with vibrant, visually engaging materials has strengthened their understanding across all subjects. I've seen increased engagement during lessons, as students are more drawn to materials that are clear, bright, and easier to interpret.\r\n\r\nIt has also transformed the way my students create and share their work. During our animal research projects, students were able to print high-quality images of their animals, add colorful details to their reports, and present their learning with pride. That hands-on piece made a huge difference.\r\nI teach second grade, and a lot of my students need to physically interact with something to fully understand it. With the shapes, they were able to count sides and vertices, compare shapes, and even catch their own mistakes.
