Students in 2nd grade are engaged in learning the sciences through hands-on learning opportunities like growing/observing plants, observing insects life cycle changes, discovering states of matter, and exploring erosion of earth's surface. In order to deepen their understanding/learnings and connect it to real-life, students need opportunities to read related non-fiction text. I will create science topic book bins that are connected to our science curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS 2-PS1 1-4, 2-LS2 1-2, 2-ESS2 1-3, and K-2-ETS1-1 Engineering Design) When students participated in distance learning while the pandemic was at it's extreme, they were not engaged with text nor hands-on learning. I believe this has influenced their extreme interest in learning now.
