We are also using the social-emotional learning materials to help students identify and express their emotions, practice coping strategies, and learn ways to regulate themselves. One special moment has been watching students become excited and engaged while building with the LEGOs and then proudly showing their creations to their teachers and classmates. My students were immediately excited when they saw the new materials! The LEGOs especially caught their attention, and many students were eager to begin building and exploring. The social-emotional resources also gave us new ways to talk about feelings and emotions in a way that is meaningful and accessible to our students. Seeing their excitement and curiosity reminded me how valuable hands-on and engaging materials can be in our classroom. Our next steps are to continue using the LEGO materials to encourage creativity, communication, problem-solving, and social interaction. We will also continue incorporating social-emotional learning into our daily routines by helping students recognize their emotions, identify how they are feeling, and practice appropriate strategies for managing those feelings. These skills are an important part of helping our students become more independent and successful both in and outside of the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1788561267127,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-play/10574799/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carrigan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5745409_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1538019728788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-carrigan"},{"teacherId":10657083,"projectId":10610633,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my students who receive occupational therapy services. Your generosity provided new sensory and therapeutic resources that are already making a meaningful difference in my students' school experience.\r\n\r\nMy students are using the new materials during occupational therapy sessions to support sensory regulation, attention, fine-motor development, and participation in classroom activities. One of the most exciting moments was introducing the new sensory materials and games to the students who often have difficulty remaining regulated and engaged during academic tasks. When they first saw the materials, they were immediately curious and excited to explore them. Students eagerly asked questions, touched and investigated the different materials, and were excited to choose which tools they wanted to try. I have also made sensory bins with the materials and the students love it! It was wonderful to see students who can sometimes feel overwhelmed in the classroom become motivated and engaged through hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these resources as part of structured activities where students practice identifying what sensory strategies help their bodies feel ready to learn. For example, students may begin a session with a sensory activity (the spinning chair) and then transition into a fine-motor, writing, or classroom-readiness task. This gives them an opportunity to practice using strategies that they can eventually carry over into their classrooms.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue helping students recognize which sensory and regulation strategies work best for them and learn how to use those strategies more independently. We will also continue incorporating the new resources into fine-motor and functional activities that connect directly to students' classroom routines and educational participation.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students. Your support has given them opportunities to explore, regulate, participate, and build confidence in their ability to learn. We wasted no time putting these resources to work. The storage bins have completely revolutionized our classroom organization; each student now has a designated, easily identifiable bin that they can navigate entirely on their own. A specific highlight was watching one of my students, who previously struggled significantly during transitions, independently walk up to his new visual schedule, pull off the velcro \"math\" icon, and transition smoothly to his workstation without a single prompt. Seeing that spark of confidence and autonomy in real-time was incredibly moving, and it is all thanks to your support.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps are to use these materials to foster even greater academic and personal independence. Now that our foundational routine visuals are established, we are using the remaining laminating sheets and velcro to create individualized, interactive learning binders for our literacy and math units.
