Your generosity is helping bring hands-on mystery-solving games into our classroom, and I truly appreciate your investment in my students and their learning.\r\n\r\nAP Seminar is a course built around critical thinking, collaboration, research, and communication. These mystery-solving activities give students the opportunity to practice those skills in an engaging, low-pressure environment where they can think creatively, analyze evidence, and work together to solve complex problems. Instead of simply memorizing information, students learn how to ask questions, evaluate ideas, and justify conclusions with evidence.\r\n\r\nMany students discover through these activities that learning can feel exciting, collaborative, and meaningful. They build confidence in their voices and begin to see themselves as capable thinkers and problem-solvers. The games also encourage teamwork, persistence, and respectful discussion—skills that extend far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students will have experiences that make learning memorable and help prepare them for college, careers, and life beyond school. While Franz Kafka's themes of isolation, alienation, and societal pressure are deeply relevant to teenagers, the dense, century-old text can often act as a barrier to comprehension. By using this graphic novel, I am able to teach critical literary skills—such as analyzing tone, tracking character development, and understanding symbolism—through a visual medium. Students aren't just reading words; they are learning to decode visual metaphors, analyze how color gradients reflect a character's emotional state, and critique how pacing is built through comic panels. It has turned a daunting piece of world literature into an accessible masterclass in media literacy.\r\n\r\nWith these new books in hand, reading time in our classroom has become incredibly dynamic and collaborative. Instead of staring blankly at a page of text or waiting for me to translate the story for them, students are actively leaning over their desks, pointing out hidden details in the artwork, and debating the meaning behind Gregor Samsa's insect form. You can hear a tangible buzz in the room as they compare panels and discuss how the illustrations enhance the dialogue. This format has allowed us to transition seamlessly from independent reading to high-level, student-led discussions where everyone feels equipped to contribute.\r\n\r\nThis project has been an absolute game-changer for several specific groups of students in my class. My visual learners and English Language Learners, who previously struggled to keep up with traditional classic novels, are absolutely thriving. They finally have a seat at the table during analytical discussions because the artwork provides the context clues they need to fully comprehend the plot. Additionally, several of my most reluctant readers—students who typically avoid picking up a book at all costs—have been completely sucked into the narrative, fascinated by the surreal, darkly beautiful illustrations. Your generosity has leveled the playing field in our classroom, ensuring that every single student, regardless of their reading level, can experience the brilliance of classic literature.","fullyFundedDate":1767985042127,"projectUrl":"project/metamorphosis-graphic-novels/9983742/","projectTitle":"Metamorphosis Graphic Novels","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Salisbury","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8674048_orig.jpg?crop=180,180,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767719946872","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8674048"},{"teacherId":9353055,"projectId":10006698,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much for the generous donations that have inspired my students to use their creative writing skills in their own personal journals. this is an invaluable tool that will build confidence, aptitude, and endurance with all aspects of writing.\r\n\r\nWe have encountered such great results with the use of our journals. Needless to say, having great novels in my classroom rare anymore with budget cuts. So when I reached out to donors choose, I was hoping it was in your budget to allow my class to get a classic, timeless play to read. Fortunately, you all came through and gave me a class set of the play, Glass Menagerie.\r\n\r\nWhy this play? When a piece of literature is so great and stands the test of time, there has to be a reason. I am a Tenneessee Willias fan and as an ex theater major, I love reading plays with my students. It gets them more involved than listening to a recording or reading silently. It becomes a true group effort. Also, having only four characters made it easier for them to follow and engage with each person in the play.\r\n\r\nWas it successful? I believe it was because each character in the play was someone my students could relate to. Family dynamics never goes away so it is the same in the 1930's as today in 2026. My students related with the frustrated Tom, the shy Laura, and the overbearing mom. We had fun reading. We had fun analyzing the characters. It is not easy to get seniors invovled in the spring so this was perfect. My students have already begun using the materials in meaningful ways--from creating one-pagers that visually represent their understanding of texts to engaging in structured debates that build their confidence and communication skills. One of my favorite moments so far was watching a group of students use the new supplies to design and present their ideas together; students who are usually quiet were actively participating, sharing, and leading.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate.
