My students love to create art and experiment with new materials, but we are limited to what is inside of our budget. One thing I noticed that they like to do (but don't have a lot of opportunity) is build things or create art in 3 dimensional space. At my school, we are limited to pencils, old crayons, dried up markers, tempera paint and broken pastels. My hope is to create a multi-sensory art experience in the version of centers and provide materials which allows them to think creatively. The centers will engage the senses and all learners as they use their hands to manipulate play doh, or build skyscrapers and sculptures with blocks, Legos, or Magnatiles. Using a variety of materials in this way helps us to meet all of our Core Art Standards while getting them to think more about 3-dimensional space with a broad range of multi-sensory experiences.
