These Forensic Science materials will help students with hands on learning, something they missed out on last year in our virtual classroom. The flashlights and batteries will allow students to process mock crime scenes, looking for latent (hidden) fingerprints, unknown fluids and trace evidence. The fingerprint brushes and clear tape will allow students to dust for latent fingerprints and lift them from the mock crime scene, for further analysis in the lab. (Forensic Science Performance Standard 5.3 Examine Fingerprint Evidence) The skeleton will help students visualize human anatomy and identify individuals based on human remains (which are sometimes just bones!) Students will reference the full skeleton as they work through a missing person lab. Students will also calculate the time of death and postmortem interval. The calculators will allow students to perform these calculations and act as true medical examiners. (Forensic Science Performance Standard 7.1 Explore Death Investigation and Standard 7.2 Explore Forensic Anthropology)
