Being able to provide students with tangibles (paper and pencils) will help them have the resources necessary to better understand the standards we are covering in class. Students have not been in school for almost two years, and I am seeing a severe lack of understanding as a result of distance education. I am trying to help my students improve their math skills so they can master the NVACS that we are covering in order to support their future learning and to help them be better prepared for future standardized tests. While we are a 1-1 school, students do perform better when asked to write out their math as opposed to just reading from a computer screen. From my past experience, students can effectively learn new math content by not only listening and watching but also by writing; writing notes (using the requested paper and pencils supplies) will only help to ensure my students can productively learn new math material while we also use the technological resources available to us.
