Students were immediately drawn to the bright colors and detailed visuals. One of my favorite moments was watching them gather around the world map, excitedly searching for their countries of origin. The maps sparked so much conversation, pride, and curiosity—far more than I expected!\r\n\r\nOur next project will be a research project on each student's country of origin. Using the maps from this project, students will create their own labeled maps to show important places, landmarks, and features of their home countries. Each time a student hits a growth goal on iReady, finishes a tough math test, or shows extra effort on their reading, they get to pick a special snack. My children have been able to engage in a personalized counseling experience in their high school learning environment. My student's mental health has been placed as a priority in my school building. I can express the gratitude from my students and I. My students have been able to learn so many new skills to help them thrive as they return back to their classrooms.\r\n\r\n\r\nMy students had access to snacks as incentives as many students engaged in small group counseling sessions. In my individual sessions, many of my students who have emotional and mental struggles have the opportunity to self-regulate as many students have opt-in to using a personalized journey that was donated from several donors.\r\n\r\nFor example, students have been able to grab hold of mindfulness. Learn how to not spiral and find best case solutions v. worst cause irrational and maladaptive thoughts. I have seen students decrease their anxious ways and students are learning emotion/feeling identification. Something simple as learning what depression is has been such a help.\r\n\r\nLastly, the art supplies have been such an amazing opportunity for my students. I've seen high school students paint how they feel and describe what's going on in their head/minds by having a blank canvas and colorful paints to express themselves.\r\n\r\nThis has been a great counseling year at Victory College Prep because of Donor Choose. I've been able to organize my materials for small groups. My students can come to a group setting and have everything organized and ready for them to dive in. Now with our new equipment, we are better prepared to give them more opportunities to participate.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been more than competition. Many students have had to change their outlook on school to participate. We keep a strict GPA and behavior code so that students are held accountable in school before they can compete. ALL of the students have increased their GPAs as well as behaved well in class.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project helped create a new world for these students. With the new season on the way, we have many goals we aim to achieve. I am so happy that I decided to use Donors Choose to fund this project.
