This collection of books has been chosen with all of my students in mind. As an ENL teacher working in grades 3-5, I have chosen books to match all reading levels as well as the diverse backgrounds of the students. Students will be able to read about children like themselves and make connections to their own lives as well as increase their knowledge and understanding of other cultures, historical events, and people. These books will also be used as anchor texts to build background knowledge, connect to our social studies, literacy and writing content, practice speaking and writing skills through discussion and quick writes about the diverse book topics and characters, and create opportunities for cultural growth and understanding.
