Even our fundraising efforts were strengthened: the plastic clam shells and soup pot allowed students to package and sell items, helping us provide gift cards to six students to offset the cost of their Thanksgiving meals. My students were so excited to receive the package with these resources inside. Already we've constructed skylines of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, Paris and the Eiffel Tower, London and the London Eye, as well as iconic structures in Tokyo and Dubai. Through the assembly of these Lego kits, students were able to see for themselves why certain shapes are used for certain structures to give it as much strength and durability as possible. They not only used the Legos to learn about architecture and engineering, but also used them to create their own word problems! Students used the falling object model formula to develop questions about dropping an object from the top of these iconic structures so estimate the amount of time it would take for the object to reach the ground. This tied in very nicely with our unit on quadratic functions. Thank you again for your support! The limited monochromatic palette, enhanced by the touch of shimmering silver, forced students to focus intensely on texture, shadow, and contrast—powerful elements that made the resulting endangered animal portraits incredibly dramatic and moving.\r\n\r\nBefore we started our art, each student chose an endangered animal to research. They didn't just look for images; they dove into the causes of the animal's decline, its ecological role, and the conservation efforts underway. This research transformed the project from a simple art assignment into a mission.\r\n\r\nResearching an animal and then spending hours meticulously rendering its portrait created a deep, personal sense of empathy. It's hard to ignore a crisis when you are capturing the soul of one of its victims on canvas.\r\n\r\nThe resulting exhibition of these stunning black and white pieces naturally drew attention. The stark contrast highlighted the dire need for conservation, turning our hallway or community display into a gallery of advocates.
