21st Century Students are inundated with images, but decorating our classroom with classic American Art will help them to see the power of an image. Taking time to absorb and understand these paintings will help them to see the past through the eyes of real people. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but these paintings are more than that, they can speak a thousand languages and are part of our shared history. By displaying and teaching about art in a history class, students can see their part in the long and challenging process of building America. Students will get to observe the art on a large print and in a non-digital format. We will take time during each of the applicable units to analyze these paintings as they fit into the larger picture of American history. Additionally, students will be encourages to see how images from the present can be used to express ideas and perspectives to future generations.
