Hands-on learning truly is one of the most effective ways for students to learn, stay engaged, and build confidence, but it can also be expensive. Your generosity helps cover those extra costs and gives us the opportunity to focus more on the educational experience rather than worrying about supplies. Because of you, my classroom is a place where learning feels active, exciting, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThis year, I really wanted to press the idea to my students that hard work pays off. Many of my kids come in believing that school is something that just happens to them, not something they have control over. I wanted to change that mindset. Through consistent effort, participation, and practice, they are starting to see that their choices matter and that growth doesn't happen overnight — it happens through showing up every day and trying, even when things feel challenging.\r\n\r\nThe materials you helped provide have allowed me to create lessons that are hands-on, interactive, and student-centered. Instead of only reading or listening, my students are building, sorting, discussing, writing, and collaborating. These activities keep them engaged and help them understand concepts on a deeper level. I've seen students who were once hesitant to participate raise their hands, work confidently in groups, and take pride in what they've created. That kind of growth is powerful.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts has been watching my students realize that effort leads to results. When they complete a task successfully or master a new skill, they can clearly connect it back to the work they put in. They are beginning to celebrate their progress, not just their grades. This shift has helped build perseverance, confidence, and a sense of ownership over their learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has also helped create a positive classroom environment where students feel valued and motivated. When students see that people outside of their classroom care enough to invest in their education, it sends a powerful message. It shows them that their learning matters and that they are worth the effort and resources being poured into them.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the importance of hands-on learning. Your donations have made a real impact in our classroom, not just in materials, but in mindset. Because of you, my students are learning that hard work truly does pay off, and that is a lesson that will stay with them far beyond 6th grade.","fullyFundedDate":1695221182845,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-reading-means-fun/7703304/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Reading Means Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dane'","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8312302_orig.jpg?crop=1165,1165,x1163,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733939869262","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8312302"},{"teacherId":9809834,"projectId":9497735,"letterContent":"Finally Breathing Easy in our ELD Classroom!\r\n\r\n\r\nI wish you could have seen the \"collective exhale\" in our room when our new air purifiers finally hummed to life! We call this project \"Fresh Air for Fresh Minds,\" but for my English Language Learners, it has truly been a gift of comfort and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe \"New Room\" Feeling when the boxes arrived, it was a great \"teachable moment\" for new vocabulary! We practiced words like filter, circulation, and atmosphere. Their reactions were so sweet—lots of curiosity and \"Whoa!\" When I explained that these machines would catch the dust and pollen that makes our eyes itchy and our noses sneezy, one of my students said in her best English, \"Teacher, no more tissues?\" The whole class laughed, but you could tell they were relieved.\r\n\r\nA Moment of Clarity\r\nIn an ELD classroom, students are working twice as hard—learning new content while simultaneously translating it in their heads. When you add seasonal allergies to that, it's a recipe for total exhaustion.\r\n\r\nA specific moment: Just yesterday, during our \"Turn and Talk\" time, I noticed one student who usually stays very quiet because his allergies make him feel so groggy. He was actually leaning in, smiling, and practicing his sentence frames with his partner. He didn't have a pile of tissues on his desk, and his eyes weren't watery. He looked present. It's amazing how much more \"brave\" students are to speak a new language when they aren't struggling to breathe through a stuffy nose!\r\n\r\nOur Next Steps\r\nNow that we've cleared the air, we're using our newfound focus to dive into our Narrative Writing unit.\r\n\r\nThe Project: Students are writing \"About Me\" stories to share their cultures and journeys.\r\n\r\nThe Goal: We are focusing on using descriptive sensory details. Because the air feels so different now, we've actually been using the classroom environment as a prompt to describe how \"clean\" or \"fresh\" feels!\r\n\r\nThank you for looking out for my kids. You haven't just provided clean air; you've created a space where they can focus on their new language without the distraction of a sneeze!","fullyFundedDate":1758690069976,"projectUrl":"project/fresh-air-for-fresh-minds/9497735/","projectTitle":"Fresh Air for Fresh Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9809834_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745445802544","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9809834"},{"teacherId":5114057,"projectId":9927841,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing Govee lamps for our physical education program. Your donation has made a real difference in the lives of our students, giving them opportunities to try new activities, challenge themselves, and grow stronger both physically and mentally.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we were able to bring BOSU balls into our Tabata Tuesday classes. BOSU balls are half-sphere balance trainers that make exercises more fun and challenging. Using them, students work on balance, strength, and coordination all at once. During our 30-minute Tabata sessions, students rotate through exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, and core movements on the BOSU balls. The instability of the equipment makes their muscles work harder and their minds focus more. It has been exciting to see students rise to the challenge and try things they never thought they could do.\r\n\r\nThe students are loving the new equipment. They cheer each other on, try new exercises without fear, and take pride in the progress they make. Some students who are usually quiet or shy really shine when mastering new moves, while others push themselves to improve their balance or hold a plank longer than they thought possible. BOSU balls have added a fun, engaging way to push limits, see improvement, and gain confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nYour support also allows us to teach more than just physical fitness. After each Tabata session, students participate in a short cooldown that includes stretching, breathing exercises, and a moment to reflect on what they accomplished. We encourage students to think about how their bodies feel, celebrate small wins, and appreciate the opportunity to move and learn. This combination of physical challenge and reflection is something we could not offer without donors like you.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your generosity. Your donation does not just provide equipment. It helps students build confidence, perseverance, and healthy habits that they can carry with them for life. Every time a student balances successfully on a BOSU ball, completes a tough exercise, or reaches a new personal goal, your support is making a real and visible difference.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our program and in our students. Your gift allows us to make physical education exciting, meaningful, and rewarding. Because of you, our Tabata Tuesday classes are more engaging than ever, and our students are learning skills and gaining confidence that go far beyond the gym. Your generosity is helping us create an environment where students can grow, succeed, and develop a lifelong love for fitness.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us, teachers and students alike, thank you.
