Our school is defined as a high poverty school, eligible for Title 1 funds. Student diversity in this school is enormous. All of my students live below the poverty line. Consequently 100% of them participate in the federally sponsored free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs. The students come to me at the beginning of each year facing a variety of challenges in and outside of the classroom. Many of these challenges stem from the community they have grown up in. The community surrounding our school faces extreme poverty, gangs, and language barriers. The students in my classroom need additional resources to compensate for the educational disadvantages they face in the classroom. My students have a desire to learn, but often face obstacles that need to be overcome in order to be successful. Their need to continue to repositioning themselves is one of these obstacles. With your financial assistance this will help my students obtain classroom subject proficiency.
