While our garden is still in the early stages, students are already deeply engaged in the planning and learning process. We have just begun winter sowing, and students across grades 3K through 5th have been researching different types of seeds that can be started during the winter months and transplanted in the spring. They are learning how weather, soil, and sunlight impact plant growth and survival.\r\n\r\nStudents have been especially excited to explore which flowers, herbs, and vegetables are best suited for winter sowing and how these plants will grow over time. Through hands-on research, discussions, and observations, students are building background knowledge and making predictions about what they expect to see once the seedlings begin to grow. These experiences help connect science learning to real-world applications in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nOur next step will be for scholars to paint and decorate the garden beds, allowing them to make the space their own before the plants are placed outside.
