My students are enthusiastic, warm, and fun loving children. They get excited about books, trips, and especially the arts. We live in a diverse, low income area where a little goes a long way. My students speak different languages and they come from all parts of the world. My school is a low performing school. only 10% of students read at grade level. I beleive this has a lot to do with the poverty level they live in as well as the limited and outdated resourcese available to them. Another reason for the low level performance is that a great amount of their parents have little to no education. This makes it difficult to achieve success because these parents are unable to assisst their chidren in academic progress. They are ENL students whom are not yet proficient in the English language but our community is working very hard to change that. I myself am a product of this community and I know that we can succeed.
