As an art-on-the-cart teacher, your support allowed me to bring a professional-level experience directly to them. With the aluminum foil and foam pads you provided, students explored tree structures and root systems, then used embossing techniques like repoussé and chasing to create detailed relief sculptures.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments came during the final step, when students applied a black paint wash and wiped it away to reveal their designs. Their pride and excitement were unforgettable. The foam pads made a huge difference, allowing for deeper, more precise work than ever before.\r\n\r\nTheir finished pieces were displayed in our school, and one student's artwork was selected for the district art show. One especially memorable moment was during a shared reading when students used props and visuals to retell a familiar story together. With support, they were able to sequence events, identify characters, and use new vocabulary from the story. After the read-aloud, students moved into pretend play centers where they acted out scenes, took on character roles, and recreated parts of the story using imagination and peer collaboration. At another station, students worked with the busy boards and books to build fine motor strength, problem-solving skills, and independence with tasks like zipping, buttoning, matching, and tracing. I want to share the wonderful impact your donation has had on my students and let you know the difference you have made. The books have been in rotation for a few months now and students are loving them! From the moment I opened the boxes, students were chattering with delight. Several students helped me catalog them and set up a lending library system. \r\nBefore the borrowing began, I introduced the books by reading blurbs and holding discussions about the books. Students who were already familiar with specific books shared their personal review of the book and this further motivated others to want to read the book. The first round of borrowing was intense! By the end, only a handful of book remained!\r\n\r\n As the months progressed in our 6th grade ELA classroom, the routine fell in to place where students continued to select a new independent reading book to read each week. They would keep the book with them and read it over the week when they had free time. Occasionally, I have to remind students to return their book, especially when others are waiting for it. My students speak English as a second language and love having high quality new graphic novels to read. Some favorites are Drama, Smile, or any of the books in the Raina Telgemeier series. Also, a group of students read all of the Babysitter's club books and would chat during recess about them.\r\n\r\n I can't thank you enough for your contribution to our classroom books.
